Oh god, it’s July?! Somebody please tell me how the first six months went by THAT fast. Phew. Today I’m doing the mid-year tag, and a couple of blinks later I’m probably be doing the Year End tag already. Crazy.
But in the mean time, let’s review how the first half of 2019 went.
1. HOW MUCH HAVE YOU READ?
So far, I’ve read 19, and it’s honestly a very good reading year for me. Though the number may seem low for some, I am at the peak of my reader career here, you guys! *lol* This slow reader has read 19 books by mid year, and this, my friend, is a miracle. Hallelujah!
2. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN READING?
Currently juggling five but actively reading only two: Crazy Rich Asians and We Are the Ants!
3. BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019
No words for Daisy Jones and the Six. I’ve read and re-read it and it’s still the same absolutely most amazing work of art that’s ever been in print. It is hands down my favorite for the first half of 2019 and will probably be the number 1 in my list come year end.
4. BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019
I haven’t really had the chance to read a lot of sequels this year yet. I really liked City of Ashes, which is quite a surprise for me. I thought I was gonna be let down and was gonna feel bored and all, but surprisingly it was a great second book to City of Bones. I can’t wait to get into City of Glass hopefully soon!
5. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO
I’m trying to catch up on R.S. Grey’s works and one of her latest releases (March 2019, I think?) is Make Me Bad. I have it in my Kindle but haven’t had the chance to get into it yet. Another one that I am excited to read about is The Honeymoon by Rona Halshall. I accidentally discovered it in some random blog post and I was really intrigued by its blurb. I still don’t have a copy, though, so I have to work on that.
6. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR
No explanations needed here. CoHo is one of my all time favorite authors, and upon learning that she’s releasing another book this year, I was ecstatic!! Why can’t December come any sooner?!
7. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
So. I’m ready for all the hate, guys. I know a lot of you loved The Kiss Quotient, but I just…hated everything about it. I was cringing the whole time and I felt like everything is just being forced here. Sigh.
8. BIGGEST SURPRISE
I was part of the Philippine blog tour for Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay and I was pleasantly surprised with how good, raw, and genuine this novel is. At first I honestly had pretty average expectations, but what I didn’t see coming was how gripping the story was. You can read my review here.
9. NEW FAVORITE AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)
10. UNDERRATED GEMS YOU’VE DISCOVERED RECENTLY
Alex Michaelides is my new favorite author for his debut The Silent Patient. I can’t believe that this is Alex’s first ever published work because I was reading it like it was a Grisham, Kind or a Brown novel. It was so good, and with such good writing quality!
11. REREADS THIS YEAR
With The Bridgertons hitting Netfllix next year (ahhh, so near yet so far!), I decided to re-read the second book of the series, To Sir Phillip With Love. As usual, I had such a good time reading about Phillip and Eloise, one of my favorite couples in the series!
12. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
The more a book makes me cry, the more I love it – and this probably the reason why Daisy Jones and the Six is my ultimate fave this year! Oh, the tears that I’ve shed reading it! I had happy tears and sad tears and angry tears. Such a perfect book, I swear to you!
13. BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
I know I could always count on mah queens Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings when it comes to feel-good and fluffy romances. I knew from the start that I’m gonna love The Unhoneymooners – never doubted it, and I am sooo right.
14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)
Still Daisy Jones, huh? You don’t know how much I’m restraining myself from answering Daisy Jones in all the questions in this tag! Seriously, though. This cover is just classic. Beautiful!
15. GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR
🌟 To complete my Goodreads goal this year, which I think is pretty doable since I’ve set it low this time.
🌟 To read more mystery/thriller because, god, I can’t believe how much I missed the thrill of the uncertain!
🌟 To actually buy less physical copies of books! Ha! You read that right. Since I recently bought a Kindle (the newest 2019 release!), I decided to make the most out of it first, before I go back to my hoarding tendencies again.
🌟To review what I read, because recently, there are zero reviews being posted in this blog! Oh, my life!
I would love to hear about your thoughts about the books that I’ve read in the first half of 2019! And if you’ve done this tag too, please link ’em up as I would love to see them!
