Oh man, this is going to be a shameful post but I’m doing it anyway because I’m actually proud of all the reading I managed to do this year
despite the heavy workload and despite 2017 being my first year ever of practicing law! THE STRESS!
Very early this year, I made a post enumerating all the reading challenges I will be participating in. To be honest, I was really looking forward to do a lot of reading in 2017 because it’s my first year out of law school. But boy was I wrong. I didn’t know that the real world (read: having an actual job!) could actually be a thousaaaaaand times stressful! Don’t get me wrong, though, I’m loving each second I am spending at work – I just wanna be a little overdramatic about all this adulting thing 😉
The reading challenge that I have been joining in for several years now is the Goodreads Reading Challenge. This is my 6th year to participate and while this can put so much pressure for some, this reading challenge actually pushes me to read more. I initially set my goal to 75, but I kinda *cheated on myself* though and lowered it to 40 in early December, when I knew I couldn’t complete all 75. Sigh. I know, I know. Judge me for this, haha. I swear to try better next year!
The Beat the Backlist challenge is a year long challenge to read the books that have been in ones’s shelf for over a year. I remember doing a separate post for my Beat the Backlist TBR consisting of 16 books. Well, I’m happy to report that I’ve managed to read *drum rolls please* 3 of those! Haha. Okay, this is honestly a MAJOR FAIL for me! My TBR just keeps on piling up; I keep adding books and I keep neglecting all the ones that I’ve bought before. Please tell me this is normal and I’m not sick in the brain?
To push myself to read more fantasy (read: less contemporary and romance!), I pledged to read 25 fantasy books in 2017. I thought it was doable in January. WHAT WAS I THINKING?! Haha. As a newbie in the fantasy genre, I admit I was having quite a difficult time getting into it. But I swear I love it, and I love the idea of getting into different worlds and *experiencing* out of this world stuff. I just need a little more time, y’know. I read 13! Not bad, right? 😉
Oh this one I FAILED SO BAD! I kept on buying and buying books this year and I don’t even read them. Initially at the start of 2017, I even made a list of the books I buy but halfway through the year, I just couldn’t keep up with myself anymore 😦 I will post an update for this one regarding how many books I’ve read from those I bought!
This. Disease. Is. INCURABLE. OKAY.
I pledged to read 1-4 re-tellings this year. I read one!!! Geekeralla! So that means I’ve passed this challenge!! YAY! Finally! 🙂 Seriously, though, I have physical copies of Cinder, Scarlet, etc and IDK why I still don’t pick them up. Man. This is more shameful than I thought.
Oh this one I definitely ACED! I pledged to read 12 New Adult Romances in 2017 and I read 16! Still not satisfied with the number because I know I could have read more but this one’s another challenge I passed so YAY!! ❤ My new adult loving heart is happy!
I wanna know the challenges that you guys joined in this year and how did you guys do?! I was obviously pretty hopeful at the beginning of 2017 (read: I have pretty much high reading expectations from myself!), but you know what, I’m still kinda proud of all the reading that I’ve done. 😉 I think the more important thing is that I’ve explored and enjoyed a lot!
