Book Review

2.5 stars and I know this shouldn’t be happening, and even I can’t believe I am giving a JLA novel a 2.5. 😦 This just makes me really really really sad. I loved Wait For You (it was an almost 5 perfect stars for me!) and I guess I just expected too much from this one. Sadly, Teresa and Jase’s story kinda became draggy and meh for me 😦 I know, I’m sorry I really didn’t mean to 😦

Quick Stats

Goodreads Blurb:
Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

My thoughts

Be With Me is a companion novel of Wait For You and it focuses on Teresa and Jase’s story (Cam’s sister and bestfriend, respectively). I have always loved this kind of set up – when the best friend falls for the younger sister of the other – ‘coz you there’d always be a sweet kind of conflict between the brother and the best friend. Did that confuse you? I know you get what I mean 😉

Anyway, it wasn’t a very original plot and that’s good with me. I mean, New Adult usually focuses on troubled twenty somethings and this one is no different where both Tess and Jase are escaping dark pasts. The thing I quite didn’t like was how it was all presented. It was so different from the first book and I didn’t feel the flow at all. For me, things have been jumping from one part to another without really establishing where things are coming from.

Jase Winstead

Jase Winstead is hot, I’ll give him that. He’s confident and cool, but there are times, though, where I felt that his being cool was somewhat misplaced and that it was not needed at a particular scene, which in effect makes him a little bit off to me. I really think there was so much more character development Jase could have undergone. His <spoiler> being a young dad to Jack, and his past with his high school sweetheart was a bit rushed to me </spoiler> that I felt no connection to him 😦 And this makes me really really sad because I wanted to like Jase, he’s a really likeable man, but I just felt like something was lacking.

Teresa Hamilton

I didn’t connect to Tess at all 😦 I felt for her at times, but I just could not connect to her. She seemed so confused with really simple things, and I just want her to stand for herself but she never did. I really wanted to like her as well, but I just couldn’t do it 😦

I probably expected too much from this one. With how my feelings went with Wait For You, I definitely
thought it would give me the same feels. I just felt like the story was going somewhere when I was already 200 pages in! GAH. I even skimmed through some parts 😦 I know it’s not about JLA’s writing – definitely not the writing coz I loved the first book. It’s just the plot and characters weren’t really just for me.

The Boklander Rating

2 Stars

A 2.5. A really really sad 2.5 for this one. I hope things get much better on the next one!

So that’s it for now, I hope this review helped in one or another. If you really liked this book, then I’m genuinely happy for you. Guess it’s not just for me! 🙂

Happy reading always!
